I've setup Windows Messenger to sign in automatically when Windows starts . . . but it does not do it. open control panel go to admin tools and open up services look down the list and you should see windows messenger look to see if it's listed as auto starting, if not highlight and change to auto. What you told the OP to do was disable the Messenger service - it displays in the services console as Messenger, not windows messenger. The Messenger service was originally intended for sending messages to users across a network by the sys admin. For most people the Messenger service is not needed, but I don't recommend turning it off. Yes, it is a vehicle for pop ups, adware and other malware, but it actually performs a good function in letting you know when the system is not secure If a firewall is in place and good anti-malware programs are used, then you won't have problems. By keeping it on it will alert you if there is a problem by the presence of pop ups in a window titled Messenger Service.
