HELLO i have a DELL OPTIPLEX GX100 and i need to know if the ram in the slots have to be the same size or brand or what? And if it non ECC? Thanks |

I could be confused, I was sure that PC100 was the only thing I could get working in them, maybe it's a BIOS Update that we missed a long time ago. Anyway, these are 400Mhz machines that we have, with 256MB RAM, and they still run well. I Upgrade the BIOS on those machines first thing before doing an OS install, so can't be certian. But I know windows 2000 is way happer with the new bios upgrade. |

You know, I was almost 100% certain they required PC100 RAM, as I have a bunch of the Celeron 400 units myself, and I know I've tried to install PC133 in them, but I've not checked for new firmware in more than 5 years. The Crucial.com website shows PC133, but I have a couple PC133 sticks that I tried in them and they will not work at all. And if it non ECC? > Thanks The optiplex isn't very picky. Pc100 or PC-133 is OK, no requirement to match sizes, brands, or even clocking (it's BETTER, if you do, however). ECC OK, non ECC OK. So, what are you running on it? I ask because there's quite a range of processors that shipped with different Revisions. As low as Celeron 400, to as high as p3 866MHZ, as I've seen. And It's best to have the ram clock, match the Bus speed of the CPU. |
