I have 6 workstations on a secure lan. All of the WinXP machines can access each otherback and forth on the network but an older machine running win98SE cannot access files on one XP machine in particular. I have checked as many settings as I can, have rebuilt the share information and turned off the windows firewall on the xp machine I am attempting to access without any luck. Can anyone suggest a workaround? -- PC Doctor Canada |

Did you create a username/pw on the Win9x computer that matches the userID/pw on the WinXP computers? BTW, if you have any Windows 98 machines, you can't have a secure LAN ;-) |

The user name and passwords on the win xp machine have been removed so it is a straight boot and login to xp (done to attempt to allow access for the Win 98Se machine). The xp machine in question is accessable to all other machines on the lan and the xp machine can read and write to the 98 machine. the win 98 machine can read write to other xp machines on the lan as well. I have confirmed as many settings as I can with the other xp machines and still the 98Se cannot get in: this baffles me. Yes I know that you can't have a "secure" lan if you have a windows 98 machine cause they had no security that worked. I meant that I have both a hardware firewall and software firewall (not windows) running on all machines. I have not tried ping to the xp machine from the 98SE machine. It seemed redundant at the time. -- PC Doctor Canada "Lanwench [MVP - Exchange]" wrote: > In news:1956C289-332C-4949-9498-4880B4B1128B@microsoft.com, > Alan279 <Alan279@discussions.microsoft.com> typed: > > I have 6 workstations on a secure lan.
