Tmp files build up in windows xp c windows temp folder

.tmp files build up in XP, c:\windows\temp folder Options Advertisers

I am having an excessive amount of build up of .tmp files in my windows\temp
folder. most files start with Acr195.tmp, etc. as an example. I have ran
Ad-aware in safe mode. I have ran AVG in Safe mode, I have ran microsoft
malicious virus check. Nothing exceptional found. These files build at a
rate of 1 file per minute. I have ran norton on-line scan and it says there
is a remacc.radmin virus but does not fix during the on-line scan. I do not
find this particular viruse during a Trend-Micro on-lines scan. However the
Trend-Micro san revealed 2 copies of what they term to be Rap_Generic. They
do not have on-line referenced material to cover this particular find. ?????
The on-line scan does not fix the proble. Also found with Trend-micro
on-line scan is Tspy_servu_Daemon Virus. This is also not fixed with the
On-line scan. Also found by Trend-Micro is Adware_Bhot_e-ventures. this also
is not fixed by the scan. and with all the findings of Trend-Micro, I do not
find a manual way to fix the problem. However I find it perplexing that none
of the product find the same problem. What then, buy all the products and
run them which in not recommended by any of the anti-virus providers?

Does anyone have a solution to this problem, short of start over with a new
installation of XP operating system?

By the way, I have removed thousands of these .tmp files and in a short time
they can use up the harddrive.

A couple of sources indicate that this type of behavior can be caused
by Acrobat Reader version 6.

If you are using version 6 then try upgrading to the current version
7.

Good luck

Hi Ron. I am not sure that you will find this listing as is is now quite far
down the list, but I would like your expert opinion?
You are mostly correct. this whole thing is somewhat crazy. I finally
uninstalled acrobact Reader7.0 which was resident at the time. The problem
stopped. I reinstalled 7.0, which is the latest version of Acrobat Reader.
The problem returned. I called Adobe support and what on hold for 1 hr 10
min before I gave up and hung up. I now have Acrobat Reader removed from my
computer.
New Problem. How do you get along in today's computer world without a .pdf
reader????????? Furthermore, this problem just took up 4 days of my life. I
am not happy about that at all. but one thing for sure, I am not building
2018kb .tmp files at a rate of one every 60 seconds.
Question 2. What do you think the purpose of Adobe is with all these .tmp
files? Is this a giant snoop?

I'm not Ron, but try Foxit Reader (free):
http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php

I'm sure it isn't a "giant snoop" although I don't know why you are
experiencing the problem with Adobe Reader. I haven't seen that
behavior with the program on any of my clients' machines or on any of
mine. Without an answer from Adobe tech support (horrible as it is),
just use Foxit.

Thank you so much Ron and Malke.. You cannot imagine how helpful you have
been to me. The stress level has been quite high thinking I had a giant
sized virus or trojan, etc. Not to mention the slowdown of the processing.
With problems like this from trusted software providers it gets a little
scary to think what we can get from an enemy of the computing world. I have
sent a support e-mail to Adobe but will not hold my breath waiting for a
response. I have just finished installing FOXIT and will take it for a
drive.

Hi Jerry. I "cheat". I access these newsgroups the old fashioned
way - with a newsreader program - rather than using the (clunky,
inefficient, and almost unworkable) web interface. And I have my
newsreader program configured so that it places a "watch thread" flag
on all discussion threads that I participate in. So as long as the
reply comes back within 7 days of my last message on that thread it
will automatically be flagged and highlighted for me.

Malke has given you a suggestion for an alternative program. Hope it
works. If not there are others.

Because this is a relatively rare occurrence I suspect that it is due
to a different version of a common .DLL file or other Windows
component. What may have happened is that a different version of this
file has been installed by some other application or update and this
has adversely affected the performance of Adobe Reader in some way.

Good luck
