Not able to connect to Cisco VPN Client Options Advertisers

Some months back I installed the SP2 from the windows updates for XP Home.
The install went fine. After that I was able to use my Cisco VPN and Remote
Admiistrator software to access my computer at work. The end of July we were
told to install an upgrade for Cisco VPN and this went fine as well and I was
able to connect to my work computer. All was working well until September 5.
When I tried to connect to the Ciscco VPN client I got an error message:
Secure VPN Connection terminated locally by the client. Reason 442: Failed
to enable Virtual Adapter. The tech at the Corporate helpdesk had me disable
QoS RSVP but this did not help. I then sent him a system file and he had me
Stop Fast User Switching but this did not help. He then came back and said
that my SP2 was either incomplete or corrupt and said I needed to uninstall
SP2 and then reinstall it. I am hesitant to do this because I got the
feeling that he just wanted me out of his hair and didn't know what else to
tell me. Is there some way I can tell if my SP2 is corrupt or does anyone
have any other ideas what the error message means? Thanks.

Can you un-install and then re-install the Cisco VPN client?

The Cisco VPN client creates a second Local Area Connection (virtual) and it
needs to be there.

Thanks for the suggestion. I can definitely give that a try and see if it
helps. Will probably be a couple days before I can try that but will let you
know whether or not that works. Thanks much.

Re: Not able to connect to Cisco VPN Client Options Advertisers

Well the uninstall went okay but that's about it. I was able to download the
software from the site we are told to use. But then when I attempted to
install it I ran into problems. At the time of the install my internet
connection to AT&T was open and during the install a message popped up that
it could not connect to AT&T and I noticed my connection was dropped. I then
got an error:
Deterministic Network Enhancer Add Plug in Failed.
Then a message box popped up that VPN was loading the Network Adapter. This
stayed on the screen for an inordinate amount of time. I ended this using
Task Manager but that box still stayed on the screen. I could not do
anything. I finally did a hard boot to shut the computer down. Upon
powering back up it showed that Cisco VPN and Remote Administrator had been
installed. However, if you click on VPN Client you get absolutely nothing.
I have no clue what is happening. I need help. Thanks.

Num 7:
Baxter''s Mom

instead of uninstall and reinstall windows XP sp2 i suggest you run the command line and type in sfc/scannow and upon need you will be prompted to insert the xp sp2 cd.
restart the machine after this is done then try connecting through your VPN client

Num 6:
I occassionaly have this issue while trying to reconnect to the office VPN. This occurs when I have disconnected the Cisco client to use local network resources and try to reconnect.

Num 5:
I have the same problem too!!! Ugh!!!!

Num 4:
The temporary disconnection from the network is normal. During the creation of the virtual connection your NIC is reset causing the drop. downloading the software then running it is the best way.

Num 3:
I have the same problem which has been bugging me for quite some time. this seems to be a perennial irritation...

Num 2:
I had the same problem. This problem occured after I installed the SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2. Once I uninstalled it, it worked fine again. Right now, I do not know what is causing it in the SP2 of "Sequal", but I am more concern to be able to connect to my office via VPN. I hope this helps.

Num 1:
