Since installing Norton System Works 2006, System Restore is unable to locate previous restore points. Any clues on how to address this? Thanks -- JBB |

Since one of the components of Norton System Works is to provide a "Go Back" restore option, it's possible that it has disabled XP System Restore. Presumably you can't have two system restore systems working at the same time. Presumably System Works doesn't offer the option of going back to an XP restore point, in which case the program should warn you of this. Perhaps Symantec customer support can help you. I don't know whether your old XP system restore points would still be there if you uninstalled System Works. If the old XP system restore points have been destroyed by Norton then only a full system restore from the last good backup (you do full backups, don't you?) will get you back to the pre-Norton System Works state. Good luck. |

Any clues on how to address this? > Thanks I agree with the others reguarding Symantec products but you might give this a try. Shut off system retore and reboot your computer, next turn sr back on and reboot again, this will delete all prior restore points and the second reboot will create a restore point so you know that the auto check point funtion is working, then give sr a try and see if it is working again. Note: system restore checkpoints rely on the one before it for it to work, if one of these checkpoints get corrupted in some way sr is kaput! and the only way to fix it is how I described above. Good luck. -- Mike Pawlak |

Yes, this is a known problem with NSW. "Restoration Incomplete..." when running System Restore with Norton 2006 applications installed: http://bertk.mvps.org/html/symantec_doc_1.html The best advise is to dump NSW. You will find good alternatives on the following page. You can uninstall Norton Go Back without uninstalling the other Norton System Works applications using the following procedure. On Control-Panel / Add-Remove-Programs proceed to initiate removal of Norton System Works. Prior to initiating entire removal of System Works, you’ll be given the option just to remove Norton Go Back. My observations indicate that Norton Go Back is a resource hog that cannot be tolerated by all but the latest and fastest computers.
