By not installing Norton Products on Vista, your Vista install will be
protected from Norton screwing it up.

Curious, why would you think XP could protect Vista? Vista is a
separate operating system on a separate partition, and XP is not
running, so XP can not protect it in any way.

Also, Norton currently does not run on Vista. You'll need to use
another antivirus program, and I recommend AVG (current version works)
or Avast (beta version 4.7.881+ only).

Norton consumer products do not yet work on Vista. You can apply for the
public beta for Norton products if you wish. Nothing on your XP partition
will protect the Vista partition while Vista is running. Vista has a built
in two-way firewall.
