I think there is a graphic program in xp home that lets you view jpg and other images as a running "slideshow" but I cannot find it. Can someone point me in the right direction? Jeff |

Copy and paste the following in the Open box, hh.exe ms-its:C:\WINDOWS\Help\filefold.chm::/windows_fcab_slideshow.htm Click OK. 3. Open up a folder which has image files. Look in the left hand column under Picture Tasks for "View as slide show". Good luck Nepatsfan |

You must have folder options set to show common tasks.Kindly check that. regards, S.Sengupta[MS-MVP] Jeff wrote: > I think there is a graphic program in xp home that lets you view jpg and > other images as a running "slideshow" but I cannot find it. Thanks. I have my folder options set as "Use Classic windows folders" and therefore slideshow was not in the menu. Now I know how to do it. Thank you. It would be nice if I could set "Use Classic windows folders" for all my folders but have the option "show Common Tasks" only effective for the specific folders where I keep my images. I guess not. Hi Jeff: If your default image viewer is Window Picture and Fax, you should be able to just double-click the image you want to view and then click the icon at the bottom of the screen that looks like a tiny projector screen. You might also want to explore the rest of the bottons on this tool bar. In addition, Tweak UI, a free MS utility, has many cool, hassle-free ways to adjust what Windows does with images and many other objects: http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstation/downloads/PowerToys/Networking/NTTweakui.asp Mark "Jeff" wrote: > I think there is a graphic program in xp home that lets you view jpg and > other images as a running "slideshow" but I cannot find it. Thank you Mark. I prefer to use PaintShop Pro as the default image viewer because I use it work on the images. Does Window Picture and Fax exist as a separate program I can call up for slide shows when I wish to? I cannot find it as a separate application on my drive. For slideshows try Irfanview, it's configurable whilst the MS one isn't and best of all it's free! Make sure you get the plugins as well. http://www.irfanview.com/ -- Kenny Cargill "Cigarettes are killers that travel in packs." 7:39 AM 6/17/2006 Jeff: I have not used PaintShop Pro and Google spun out a million paintshop blah blah blah. Is that the Corel software? I use a different image editor but I have found windows Picture and Fax Viewer (WPFV) to be much faster for browsing images and then when I encounter an image I want to work on, one of the buttons on the toolbar at the bottom of the WPFV window opens the image into the image editor I have selected as default. I believe windows Picture and Fax Viewer is an integral part of XP but I do not know where it resides. If you would like to make it the default viewer (browser) for any particular image file type, just right click any image icon and choose "Properties". In the Properties dialog box, click the "Change" button to the right of "Opens With...". Choose windows Picture and Fax Viewer. This would have to be repeated for .JPG, .BMP, etc. Explore the toolbar along the bottom. You can click to view images in any given file as a slide show or manually browse images with the mouse or cursor keys. There is a button on the toolbar at the bottom of the WPFV window which will open the image into the image editor you have chosen as default. One word of caution: I would not use WPFV for any manipulation of the image, i.e. "rotate"-- there could be irretrievable, unintended consequences. If you do NOT want to make WPFV your default image browser, you can still open it for use as a slideshow generator by right-clicking any image and choosing 'Open With". Post again if you have any further questions. Mark "Jeff" wrote: > Thank you Mark. > > I prefer to use PaintShop Pro as the default image viewer because I use it > work on the images. Thank you. This is the suggestion that I find suits me best. Because I use the Classic view in my XP folders (and thus do not have the common tasks with "view as slideshow" visible), I find that just right clicking on an image and opening with windows Picture and Fax viewer works fine for my purposes. and the icon at the bottom opens the image into my default PSP when I want to edit it. Yes PSP has now been acquired by Corel. Great inexpensive software, unless Corel messes it up. What do you use? 2:45 PM 6/17/2006 Jeff: Glad that seems to have helped. I rarely have to do anything very fancy with images except to caption photos (about 200 a week), or perhaps draw a red arrow or two, so I use the image editor included with XP called "Paint" (written by Corel?). Corel seems to have a history of screwing up good software. I have not used any Corel software since they bought out WordPerfect-- what a fiasco for us WP fans. LOL I have learned to limp along with MS Word but I truly miss the "Reveal Codes" and other features in WP 6.0 for DOS. It was lightning fast and easy to troubleshoot. Happy Computing!! PS: I would still download the latest version of the power toy called Tweak UI. Amoung many outstanding attirbutes, it has a few features for the slideshow such as easlily setting the speed at which the slides change. Looks like we are computing twins. I too go back to WordPerfect and dearly miss their Reveal codes. (I especially miss the DOS WP 5.1 version). The PSP I have is version 9, the last version produced by Jasc before it was bought by Corel. Jeff Callmark1 wrote: > 2:45 PM 6/17/2006 > > Jeff: > > Glad that seems to have helped.
