I have never tried it but I think that you must keep Office 2000 on your hard drive: 1) Upgrade will probably check that you have an earlier version of office before allowing you to upgrade 2) I had always assumed that any upgrade programs required a previous version to work. 3) If you had a full version then I would say delete it but I am sure that the upgrade will probably add additional things, which Office 2000 doesn't possess. 4) What I would do A) Use search for files either 1: Inside windows explorer or 2: On the Start menu (bottom left hand corner of screen) B) Insert Office 2000 in the file search box C) Carry out a search D) Make a note on a piece of paper of the Office 2000 folders and files E) Then I would close down all windows (boxes) and shut down the computer. F) Switch on the computer (cold start) G) Then I would place the New Office disk into the drive and install it. 1: Some Discs it may be necessary to manually have to install it. H) Select between < >: 1: <START> 2: <RUN> 3: Insert D:\ If your dvd or CD,which you use is in D drive the highest drive in PC 4: Press the RETURN or ENTER key 5: Disk will start installing - follow the instructions 6: I would use CUSTOM (default) and or REPAIRS (ADD) new office to existing office 2000 package to prevent unnecessary duplications of files, which could cause problems. 7: When you have completed installation then you can use search to check that no folders and files have been duplicated (2 Folders and files with exactly the same title. 8: If there are duplications then I would A: Copy Ofiice 2000 folders and files to the bin B: install the new Office software. C: Use the new Office software for probably a month or so. This is because if there is a problem you can always use the UNDO button. |

The OP can safely remove all Office 2000 products as long as the OP retains the qualifying product CD for future reinstallations. Having Office 2000 resident on the computer is not required. -- Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook] Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact.
