Hi Folks, I recently reformatted my pc win xp pro and sp2. I did this as the pc was having difficulty shutting down - a corrupted winlogon.exe - froze during shutdown at Saving Your Settings. A repair with xp made no difference. After reformatting the same problems have continued. But now other programs are freezing too. Thunderbird, a picture viewer, even task manager - and won't close down properly using task manager after freezing. I have done full scans using F-Secure Security Suite, SpyBot, Spysweeper, done online scans with Panda antivirus and nothing has been found. I'm not sure what the problem is. It happens after the pc has been off as well as after many hours of being on. Also the modem / adsl line keeps cutting out. |

You fail to mention if you've done a memory diagnostic, a HDD diagnostic, RAM diagnostic, system cleanup, defragged and run chkdsk /r . The diagnostics can be gotten from your systems manufacturer or the manufacturer of your HDD. Memory diagnostics can be found by doing a simple internet search for them. Post back after doing these and give us more details please. TTFN. -- There are three types of people in computing, those that can count and those that can't. |
