outlook 2007 Beta - Nag Screen for Desktop Search Options Advertisers

Everytime I start outlook 2007 (beta), in addition to being nagged to
activate (which I can't do -- but I understand it's being addressed), I also
get a nag screen begging me to install an update for windows Desktop Search.

I do not use windows Desktop Search, and do not want it. Google's desktop
search fits my preferences better (mainly the ability to not have to display
a toolbar all the time -- i.e. just hit CTRL twice to display a handy search
box).

How can I make outlook quit asking for the search component. I don't care
about the InfoBar about it, but don't show me a forced modal dialog everytime
I check my e-mail or calendar.

I'd like to know also. I do not use indexing, in fact I turn off all indexing
for my HDs since it just adds overhead and slows things down. Last thing I
want now is desktop search + indexing.

Hi I'd like to know too, how can we get rid of this warning?

Thanks! That should be mentioned in that dialog (or, GASP, a check box to
turn off the warning)...

What I did was:

1. install the update to windows Desktop Search.
2. Go into the services control panel applet and set "Windows search
Service" to disabled.
3. Start up Office 2007.
4. You'll get some kind of error message saying that it can't access the
service. On that window, there is a check box to prevent the error message
from being repeated. Check it and close the window.
5. No more nag screen!

Hope this helps.

perfect! That's the best way to go about it, so that you don't have to see the reminder at the top to click to enable blah blah blah. Thanks a bundle!
