Multiple instances. Options Advertisers

Hello,

I would like to know if it's possible to force office programs (outlook for
exemple) to open only once, like for exemple outlook express does ?
Thanks for your help.
Thierry.

Well only one instance of OL will/can be opened, thats not the same as
having multiple instances of outlook.exe showing in task mngr, which would
be as a result of a problem with OL
Perhaps you mean not have multiple windows open, or.......?

Re: Multiple instances. Options Advertisers

Hello, and first of all, thank you for taking some time to help me, i
appreciate.
Let me explain you exactly my trouble :
I use a portal.
In that portal, i have a button (controled by an activeX) that tells me if i
have messages.
By clicking on that button, the activeX calls OUTLOOK.EXE.
Unfortunatly, every time I click the buton, another instance of outlook is
oppened...
This is not acceptable in my environement.
If I use MSIMN.EXE to launch OULOOK EXPRESS instead of OUTLOOK.EXE, only one
instance of the program is oppened, no matter the number of clicks on the
activeX...
I have tryed outside the portal, directly from a command line with the same
results : every time I launch OUTLOOK.EXE, a new instance of the programe is
started, if i type many MSIMN.EXE, only one instance is oppened...
Is there a switch, a registry entry,... to avoid outlook be oppened more
than once ?

I hope that's clearer.
Thanks again for your help.

Thierry.

Re: Multiple instances. Options Advertisers

I'm afraid my usage is limited to the desktop environment, none exchange
Whilst there only a single instance of OE will open, with OL it is possible
to have multiple OL processes running in the task Manager, only a single OL
GUI will/may be open, this usually happens when the origonal OL process
fails to terminate correctly.
In your particular environment I'm unable to add anything, sorry.

Re: Multiple instances. Options Advertisers

I ran OL2k, with this on occasions, whilst the OL GUI was open, in task Mngr
multiple instancess of outlook.exe process was running. Usually when this
happened OL failed to function correctly. I would have to close OL GUI then
terminate the outllook.exe processes. The multiple processess were caused by
the initial OL, open, failing to close correctly when I terminated OL.
This was/is usually caused by something interacting with OL, eg Fax
Software, Synching app, Com addins
I now run OL2003 and so far havent experienced the same problem.
