Agent Options Advertisers

15-Jun-06

I've asked this before, but my memory [the brain kind] is failing me.

I have Agent/Free agent by Forté. The program lists all of the
Microsoft newsgroups but no others. How can I get it to list ALL of
the newsgroups that my ISP (Adelphia) allows?

Thank you,

Barry Karas

PS I don't see an agent newsgroup

Ask this question in the agent newsgroup?

You need to configure the newsreader (the specific one doesn't really
matter) to access your ISP's news Server, rather than Microsoft's.
(Agent, if I remember correctly, can be configured to access only one
news server at a time.)

Actually with version 3 it allows more than one. You are right this
needs to be in alt.usenet.offline-reader.forte-agent .

Sounds to me as if you have set up agent only to look at the MS news
server, which only lists MS newsgroups. =20
Most other news servers will list the agent newsgroup:
alt.usenet.offline-reader.forte-agent

Look at agent Tools/Servers & Accounts/ and then look at what is
listed under news Servers. The microsoft server is (probably - there
are others) news.microsoft.com. If only that is listed then there is
your problem. You will need to add your ISP's news server. =20
The ISP web site will tell you the server name to use. =20
Mine is freenews.iinet.net.au. I also have news20.forteinc.com, which
is a premium subscription service provided by Forte.

If you do have your ISP's news server listed, you will need to go to
Agent /Tools/Newsgroup Directory/, update the directory, ensure all
news servers are selected (under "show newsgroups hosted by selected
servers") then select the groups to which you wish to subscribe. =20
I suggest you add at least alt.usenet.offline-reader.forte-agent.
