I have a HP zd8230us laptop. I know HP puts alot of pre-installed software on the computer that I don't need. I have tried to remove most of the software without doing a XP reinstall. In taskmgr it says that there are over 70 processes. I don't think that the PC is maximizing it's proformance. So do you guys know of any way to cut down on the stuff running in the background. Like a tool or somthing. Thanks Jake Henderson |

Thanks download and run Process Explorer http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.html Double click on the process(s), reading it's image and command line will tell you where to find them. stop the process and delete the file/directory. Run Regedit and search for the file name(s) deleting them as you find them. Right clicking on the Process and selecting Google will describe the process. Also some programs can be disabled in their options from starting up until needed. And a process list: http://www.processid.com/processes.html -- http://www.sixside.com/13_things_that_do_not_make_sense.htm |

All about disabling programs at startup http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_content.php http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/taskl ist.htm Also see: http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Autoruns.html and www.dougknox.com Win XP Utilities, Startup programs Tracker. This utility tracks the common startup vectors and will show you what is loading at startup and from where. The included Help gives a brief tutorial with some good information on removing the entries that the program finds. -- =========================== TaurArian [MS-MVP] 2005-2006 =========================== http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "Need more help? http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=ph;en-us;6527 (Links to web pages and MSKB Articles are posted for the purposes of keeping the information current) "Jake Henderson" <jakeh11@gmail.com> wrote in message news:OcU9qoDjGHA.4776@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... |I have a HP zd8230us laptop.
