Uninstall the older version first. The new installer won't do it for you
(thanks for the crappy programming, Sun!).

Re: Java update Options Advertisers

1. Go to Add/Remove programs > Uninstall any/all versions of Java (e.g., jre
1.4.x_x) found.

2. Delete C:\Program Files\Java <=this folder.

3. Go to http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp > Right-click on
"Windows (Offline Installation)" and Save it to your desktop.

4. Close all browser windows and install jre 1.5.0_7

Tip => Choose "Custom" install and only install what you /want/ to
install.

In the Add/Remove programs I see that I have

Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03 (Size 136MB)

and

J2SE Runtime Environment, 5.0 Update 6 (Size 152MB)

(I also have installed J2SE Development Kit 5.0 Update 6)

What should I remove before installing 1.5.0_7?

Both of them:
